Growing with Our Clients

There is no greater compliment than the "we’re moving" phone call. We first met the Bonem family in 2024 when we transformed their yard with raised bed gardens in the Houston Heights. Space was at a premium, so we focused on maximizing every square inch of their footprint.

By installing two cedar border gardens flanked by Eagleston Holly trees and a sleek, black cut-flower border garden near the firepit area, we proved that you don’t need an estate to have a dreamy garden for veggies, herbs, and cut-flowers. We like to think of border gardens as the "secret weapon" for urban gardening, and the Bonems took full advantage of them.

A New Canvas, A New Vision

Imagine our delight when the Bonems reached out 18 months later with exciting news: they were moving! They had found a new home with a larger backyard and wanted us to help them start their next chapter.

During our first site visit, we scouted the sunniest spot for the raised bed gardens, but the vision quickly grew. The Bonems didn't just want a garden; they wanted a gathering place. They asked us to design an "outdoor room" for family and friends, as well as a complete landscape overhaul to reflect their style throughout the property.

The Heart of the Garden: The Harvest Table

For the raised bed garden area, we designed four custom steel L-shaped beds with two Ivy Arch trellises and Margo Obelisk trellises for vining veggies.  The chef’s kiss of the garden area was the harvest table feature in the center. To give the space a cozy, intimate feel, we added Eagleston Holly trees, jasmine along the fence, and fun lighting.

Curating a Houston-Hardy Landscape

Beyond the raised bed gardens, we curated a lush, seasonal landscape for the rest of the property:

  • In the Backyard (The Shade Sanctuary): We selected winter-blooming Camellias for cold-weather color, Ligularia (a Garden Girl favorite!) for its bold, "tractor seat" leaves and sunny yellow blooms, and Dwarf Yaupon Holly—a dependable Houston staple.

  • In the Front Yard (Classic Curb Appeal): To highlight the crisp white architecture of the home, we used variegated Pittosporum for texture, Azaleas for a burst of spring color, and Mystic Spires Salvia to ensure the local bees and butterflies felt just as welcome as the human guests.

The Ultimate Reward

No compliment is bigger than growing again with previous clients.  Every garden we design gets 100% of our attention and is treated like it’s our own garden.  Congratulations to the Bonems on their new garden space.  We are excited to grow with you!
